Description

In collaboration with Luiza Margan. An installation exploring the meaning and function of the individual within sociological systems of constant progress. Six transparent drawings are positioned at varying distances from an overhead projector. A living ant colony is integrated into the layers, moving between drawings and creating unpredictable patterns over time. The installation is a sculptural process: as ants carry sand and food, the work changes continuously throughout its duration.

Concept

Formication is the medical term for the sensation of insects crawling on or under the skin — a perceptual glitch where the body registers a presence that isn't physically there. The work takes this as a starting point for a wider inquiry into the unreliability of perception, organism, and structure, themes explored further in the Maska interview below.

Development

The work extends the collaborative interest in transparency and layering — here the layer system becomes inhabited. The ant colony introduces genuine unpredictability that no mechanical or programmatic system could replicate.
