Description

In collaboration with Luiza Margan. A backlit panel, its surface densely etched or scratched with branching, vein-like lines, is mounted on a wall and lit from within — read like an illuminated lung or root system, a network of fine channels glowing against the dark. In the same room, paired with the panel, sits a solid concrete or stone block: a heavy, inert mass set against the panel's lit, breathing surface.

Concept

The etched branching pattern echoes the structure of bronchi and alveoli — the body's breathing apparatus — rendered as light passing through fine channels rather than air through tissue. Paired with the solid block, the installation sets a "breathing," illuminated surface against an inert, weighted mass: animation versus stillness, light versus matter. Read alongside Tube and Knot, Breather extends a sustained interest in respiratory and circulatory structure as a model for installation form.
