Description

In collaboration with Luiza Margan. In the corner of a vaulted brick room, two overhead projectors stand on waist-high wooden pedestals, each throwing a different hand-drawn or hand-painted image — maps, topographies, landscape fragments — onto opposite walls. A black cloth hangs on the back wall between them. The drawings sit directly on the projector glass; their shadows and the machines' own geometry become part of the projected image, flattening the layered "Schichten" (strata/layers) of the title into one superimposed visual field.

Concept

"Das superflache Feld" (the super-flat field) suggests a deliberate collapse of depth: drawn layers of land, memory, or territory pressed into a single illuminated plane. The piece continues Presker and Margan's recurring interest — also visible in Displacement (2008) — in cartography and overhead projection as tools for thinking about layered, contested space.
